I can’t believe Halloween is tomorrow! October has flown by for me and I wish it would last longer. I’m planning on wrapping up my fall reads this weekend, which is hard to believe. Fall is my favourite season for reading, and I’ve already started working on my fall TBR list for 2027!
Below are the books I’m reading this weekend.
The Book Witch by Meg Shaffer
The Book Witch is my last witchy book of the season! In The Book Witch, the main character is a witch who defends books. She goes into and out of novels to repair changes that have been made to them. Since falling in love with a fictional character is against the rules for book witches, the main character is forbidden from dating her first fictional crush: the detective from her favourite mysteries series. If she does, she will be expelled from her book coven and will lose her magic. However, when a valuable book is stolen, he is who the witch can rely on to help her recover it.
I’m about a third of the way through The Book Witch and it’s a really fun read so far. The idea of book witches is so creative, and the themes are timely in light of continued book bans. I also love the references to other books and famous book characters.
The Book Witch is a quick read so far, and I’m hoping to finish it this weekend.
The Haunted Librarian by Auralee Wallace
The Haunted Librarian was one of my most-anticipated fall book releases this year. Last fall, I read In the Company of Witches, While the Crow’s Away, and The Late-Night Witches by Canadian author Auralee Wallace. They were all fun fall reads (In the Company of Witches is my favourite of the three!), so I was excited to read the author’s latest fall book.
The Haunted Librarian is about a recently hired librarian who can see ghosts. She meets ghosts who are trapped in her new library and learns that the future of the library is at risk. She sets out to help the ghosts and save the library.
The Haunted Librarian is a similar read to The Book Witch so far in that they’re both fun, quick reads. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that The Haunted Librarian is set outside of Cavendish, Prince Edward Island. Prince Edward Island is one of my favourite places and I hope the setting features prominently in the novel!
I’m listening to The Haunted Librarian on audio and I’m enjoying the narration so far. I’m planning on finishing it this weekend.
