Weekend Reading

Weekend Reading

I can’t believe we only have one week left of October! I’ve been having a great time working through my fall TBR and I have a pretty quiet weekend ahead that I’m planning to spend mostly reading.

Below are the books I’m reading this weekend.

Theodora’s Tea Shop by Christy Anne Jones

Theodora’s Tea Shop is a fantasy novel about a woman, Dot, who sets out to find a witch to help her learn magic. The witch, Theodora, peddles magic under the pretense of running a tea shop. When Dot arrives, Theodora’s secrets are revealed and her life is threatened.

I’m about a quarter of the way through this one and I’m really enjoying it so far. It includes some witch-related terms that aren’t defined in the novel (e.g., runes, wards), and I’ve found that it helps that I’ve read other witch novels that have explained these terms already. If you’re new to reading witch novels, it’s probably not the one I’d start with.

I’m hoping to cozy up with an endless supply of warm drinks and a blanket and finish Theodora’s Tea Shop this weekend.

The Witches of Moonshyne Manor by Bianca Marais

I’m listening to The Witches of Moonshyne Manor on audio and it’s been such a fun listen.

The Witches of Moonshyne Manor is about a coven of octogenarian witches who run a moonshine distillery in their manor house. They fight to save the manor house from demolition and to fulfill a bargain made by one of the witches out of desperation. If I was to describe this novel in movie/TV show terms, I’d say it’s Hocus Pocus meets Book Club meets Sex and the City.

I’m expecting to finish The Witches of Moonshyne Manor this weekend and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

The Red Garden by Alice Hoffman

I’ve now read most of the Alice Hoffman books on my fall TBR, but I still have two to go!

The Red Garden is a collection of interconnected stories set in a small town in Massachusetts. The novel spans over 300 years and centers around a mysterious garden.

I’m planning on starting this one on audio this weekend once I’ve finished The Witches of Moonshyne Manor.
