Alice Hoffman is one of my favourite authors, and out of her books that I’ve read, the books in the Practical Magic series are my favourites. Practical Magic is also my favourite fall movie and has been for years. Needless to say, ever since it was announced that a sequel to the Practical Magic movie was being made, I’ve been eagerly awaiting its release.
I saw the movie this weekend, and I loved it! If you like the original Practical Magic movie, I think you’ll also like the sequel. For me, the sequel had the same character, substance, and spectrum of emotions as the original movie. I thought the actors from the original and the newcomers were all excellent. There were nostalgic nods to the original movie that I appreciated. The house in Practical Magic is my favourite movie house, so I also enjoyed being able to see it again!
The sequel is based on Alice Hoffman’s The Book of Magic. I read The Book of Magic when it was released five years ago, so my memory of it is fuzzy, but parts of it did come back to me when I was watching the movie. The movie certainly felt the way an Alice Hoffman novel feels: magical, emotional, and powerful.
I’m usually skeptical of movie sequels, but I was really impressed with Practical Magic 2. I’ll definitely be adding it to my yearly fall movie list!
Have you seen Practical Magic 2? What did you think?
