There’s been a lot of exciting book news this month! From new book announcements to casting news for TV adaptations, below is the latest book news I’m excited about:
1. The Fire by Kristin Hannah Announced
Kristin Hannah recently announced that her new novel, The Fire, will be released in May 2027. The novel is her first in three yeras, and it’s a departure from her latest novels in that it is set in modern times, whereas her recent novels have all been historical fiction. Hannah noted: “The genesis was really looking at my world and my friends and the issues that we were facing and dealing with, and the sort of realization that sometimes the challenges presented in ordinary life can be every bit as disruptive and difficult as the historical times that I’ve been writing about.”
The Fire is about a woman who, after facing a public betrayal, journeys across the contry to reconnect with her estranged daughter, meeting and bonding with other women along the way.
I love Kristin Hannah’s historical fiction novels, and I’m excited to read The Fire when it comes out next spring.
2. Megan Follows Joins the Cast of This Summer Will Be Different
Carley Fortune’s This Summer Will Be Different, set on Prince Edward Island, is being adapted into a Netflix TV series. Carley Fortune recently announced that Megan Follows has joined the cast, playing Lucy’s mother, Cheryl Ashby. Megan Follows starred as Anne Shirley in the 1980s CBC adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. Seeing her in the TV adaptation of a book set on Prince Edward Island will be such a full circle moment!
On her Instagram page, Carley Fortune wrote: “I grew up watching Megan as Anne Shirley in the pitch-perfect 1980s adaption of Anne of Green Gables, which has had a more profound impact on my writing than any other piece of culture. It was such a delight to pay homage to Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic novel, those CBC films, and to Megan’s iconic portrayal of Anne within the pages of This Summer Will Be Different. And it is an absolute THRILL that Megan has come on board for our @netflix series.”
I loved the Anne of Green Gables CBC films growing up, and I will forever picture Megan Follows when I think of Anne Shirley. A release date for the series hasn’t been announced, but I can’t wait to watch when it comes out!
3. Volume 9 of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion Announced
This is much anticipated news for Emma M. Lion lovers! Beth Brower announced that Volume 9 in the series will be released on February 23, 2027. According to Goodreads, Volume 9 will be over 350 pages long, making it the longest book in the series yet.
I’ve read volumes 1-5 of the series, and volumes 6-8 are waiting for me on my bookshelf. The series is so unique and such a delight to read. They’re about a young woman in the 1880s who returns to the fictional neighbourhood of St. Crispian’s, in London. Throughout the novels, Emma writes about the quirky goings-on in the neighbourhood. If you haven’t read the books, I highly recommend them!
4. New Tara Westover Memoir Announced
Tara Westover is the author of the bestselling memoir, Educated, in which Westover details her exprience growing up in a survivalist family in Idaho and being kept out of school until the age of seventeen.
Her new memoir, Brothers and Sisters, was announced last week. Brothers and Sisters will examine Westover’s family’s reaction to Educated. The novel will be released in April 2027.
I was fascinated by Educated and I’m very curious to read Brothers and Sisters as well.
